Food pantry, meal pick-up, grocery store (online ordering and physical locations), and delivery services are listed below. Homebound residents who need food and can’t order it on-line or by phone for whatever reason can contact us for assistance:

Rogers Park and Citywide Food Distribution:

  • Chicago Public Schools is providing every young person under 18 years old with food assistance. They are not turning any child away. Families can pick up food outside of a participating school building, weather permitted. The household will receive 3 days of meals for each young person.

    • Pick up hours are Monday thru Friday 9 am – 1 pm
    • CPS will also deliver meals if a family needs that service by calling 773-553-KIDS
    • As of 4/13, CPS consolidated food pick-up sites. You can find the announcement on their website. The schools acting as meal pick-up locations in and near the 49th Ward are:

  • A Just Harvest: They are doing a mobile pantry for seniors and disabled people as well as a walkup food pantry. Seniors must live in Rogers Park to qualify for the mobile food pantry.

  • United Church of Rogers Park: They’re shifting their community feasts to hot to-go meals

  • Care for Real and UCRP: Care for Real has partnered with the United Church of Rogers Park to host a pop-up food pantry to help those struggling with food insecurity in Rogers Park during the COVID-19 crisis.

  • St. Ignatius: They will allow people to pick up food on others’ behalf, but do require a proxy form to do so.

  • C24/7: They are hosting a weekly free grocery store to provide residents in the area with essential household items and food.

  • ZAM’s Hope: ZAM’s Hope, ready to help and happy to share. ZAM’s Hope is open to all, regardless of religion, gender, ethnicity, disability, income, or sexual orientation.

  • ICNA Relief: They are providing delivery. You will need to call ahead of time to ensure they’re not at capacity.

  • Care for Real Food Pantry: Pre-packed bags of food will be available for easy and efficient pick-up. Volunteers can pick up pre-packed food bags for homebound seniors with: 1. a signed note from the senior and 2. a photo of State of Illinois ID card

  • Lakeview Pantry: Have either a week or a month’s worth of food available for families based on need.

  • Chicago Department of Family Support Services (DFSS) has shifted from serving meals out of the satellite centers to home-delivered. Seniors who find themselves in need of such support can call 312-744-4016 any time between 9 am and 5 pm Monday-Friday.
  • Meals on Wheels: Residents (60 years or older) may be eligible. Meal delivery may take up to four weeks to begin. Contact 312-744-4016 (residents will need to provide their date of birth and social security number over the phone.
  • Greater Chicago Food Depository: Use the online searchable map on their website to find more Cook County food pantry, soup kitchen, and mobile food distribution services.
  • The Salvation Army: The Salvation Army’s Metropolitan Division Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) will be providing mobile feeding services. Additionally, the Salvation Army’s 19 Chicagoland food pantries remain open to provide curbside service and will continue to serve as a resource for anyone who needs assistance.

  • Box Top Chicago has launched emergency home deliveries of food to people sheltering in place. They are working with the City of Chicago to help fill the gap in access to affordable food for families who are suffering financially from this crisis.
  • Archdiocese of Chicago/Catholic Charities: Catholic Charities will continue to serve residents at their food pantries and evening meal programs.

  • City of Chicago Emergency Food Coordination Center: The City of Chicago has partnered with the Salvation Army and the Greater Chicago Food Depository to provide people with food delivery who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who have been asked to quarantine by healthcare officials. This service is for homebound individuals who need food and do not qualify for other food support services. Those who apply for other food support services will be asked to continue to seek food deliveries through those channels instead (e.g. Meals on Wheels, youth meals, etc). The meals delivered to homebound individuals contain 7-days worth of food, with three meals a day. Deliveries will occur within 48-hours of receiving the request.
